SOLAR STEAM COOKING SYSTEM INSTALLED IN GARGI HOSTEL, MNIT, Jaipur

Solar steam cooking system is an efficient and hygienic type of cooking solution for Gargi hostel. The volatile fuel costs and climate change issues have compelled mankind to look for alternative sources of energy generation, which are clean and sustainable. The steam generation by Solar Parabolic Concentrator is a tested and proven technology. Apart from its commercial viability the system is pollution free, eco-friendly, silent and provides pure energy for cooking food.
The solar stem cooking system can cook rice, boil potato, vegetables & milk.
Some features of solar stem cooking system installed in Gargi girl’s hostel:
·         No. of dishes: 6
·         Area of one dish: 16m2
·         Total area of dishes: 16×6= 96m2
·         Temperature of water inside black body= 250˚- 300˚ C
·         Temperature of black body without filled water= 350˚- 400˚ C
·         Tank maximum pressure= 8 bar
·         Cooking timing= 40 kg rice cooked in 30 minutes at 2 bar pressure.
·         It saves two gas cylinder save per day.
It will cook food for 700 students twice a day.
·         Other applications:
i)        Sterilization
ii)      Laundry
iii)    Air conditioning
iv)    Chilling
v)      Power generation
vi)    Steam bathing

WORKING MECHANISM

The sun rays is concentrating on receiver with the help of parabolic reflector.

The water comes through the lower pipes, got super heated and moves to boiler. Hot water is circulated between receiver and boiler.
  •         The principle behind it is any fluid that gets heated its density becomes low and it pushed up is called "Thermo-Siphon principle".
  •         The advantage of thermo-siphon principle is no pumping (thus no electricity) is needed to create circulation since the heated water is pushed into the boiler and cooler water from the same boiler come into the receivers for heating.
The super-heated water get converted to steam and moves to kitchen.
